On 4th May 2025, we hosted our 2025 UK Skimboard Meet, and this one was a standout. For the first time, we took the meet to Tolcarne Beach in Newquay — and it proved to be an incredible venue for the community to come together.

The skies were grey and the breeze was cool, but that didn’t dampen the energy. With 14 riders on the beach and a great group of spectators, it was a laid-back and welcoming session — no competition, just a chance to ride, connect, and enjoy a day Skimboarding together.

Wave Riding at Its Best

Tolcarne’s wedge lived up to its reputation, offering solid waves throughout the day. It was great fun watching everyone trying to catch the famous Tolcarne backwash, caused from the waves crashing into the cliffs at high tide.

The group caught plenty of waves during the session, one of the highlights was watching Owen Alp ride — his timing and flow were a real standout, and his ability to read the wave was impressive as always.

Flatland Riders Represent

This year, we were especially pleased to see flatland skimboarding so well represented. Shoutout to Mike Uijt de Haag, currently sitting at #2 in the 2025 European Skimboarding Cup, and Scott Fozard, currently #6 in the rankings. Mike and Scott brought a fresh dimension to the beach, combining technical skill and creativity that really captured everyone’s attention. It’s great to see the flatland scene growing — and riders like these are helping lead the way.

Our First International Turnout

Another big step for us — this was the first time international riders joined a Shakas meet. It was great to welcome skimmers from outside the UK, adding new perspectives and pushing the level of riding even further. It’s something we’ve been looking forward to for a while, and we hope it’s just the start.

A Strong Community Feel

What really stood out was the sense of community. From returning regulars to first-time riders, everyone contributed to a supportive, inclusive atmosphere. Whether people were trading tips, watching from the sidelines, or catching their first proper ride, the meet had a relaxed and friendly energy from start to finish.

Thanks to All Involved

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who made the day possible — from the riders and spectators to photographers. A special thanks to Tolcarne Beach Village for hosting us. Their facilities and support helped the day run smoothly and comfortably for everyone involved.

We’re already looking ahead to the next one — and we’re excited to keep building this together. Thanks to everyone for being part of it.
