2026 UK Skimboard Meet – Tolcarne Beach, Newquay

On 3rd May 2026, we welcomed skimboarders from across the UK to Tolcarne Beach, Newquay, for this year’s Shaka Skimboards UK Skimboard Meet. With high tide not due until around 6pm, we switched things up this year with a later 3pm start, making the most of the evening conditions.

Kicking Things Off with Flatland

While we waited for the tide to push in, the beach became the perfect playground for a flatland session. A huge thank you goes to Dan Plumbridge, one of the UK’s top flatland skimboarders, who brought along his ramp and a selection of flatland boards for everyone to try. It was brilliant to see so many riders giving flatland a go, whether it was their first attempt or they were looking to add new tricks to their repertoire.

We were also lucky to have Scott Fozard, a regular on the European flatland skimboarding tour, showing everyone how it’s done. His technical tricks and effortless style kept everyone entertained and inspired throughout the afternoon.

Rain? No Problem!

Just 15 minutes before the official start of the meet, the weather decided to test everyone’s commitment. The heavens opened, and we were hit by a proper Cornish downpour!

Fortunately, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Fifteen riders still turned up, proving once again just how dedicated the UK skimboarding community is. After around an hour, the rain cleared, the sun broke through, and we were rewarded with a beautiful evening on the beach. From then on, it was perfect skimboarding conditions as we rode right through until 8pm.

Incredible Riding Throughout the Evening

As always, the standard of riding was fantastic. There were plenty of wraps, shuv-its, technical tricks and plenty of progression from riders of all abilities. One of the best things about these meets is seeing everyone pushing each other to land new tricks while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and supportive.

The battle for Best Rider was incredibly close between Mitch Jones and Owen Alp. Both put in outstanding performances throughout the evening, but Owen edged it with a series of incredible wraps towards the end of the session that really impressed everyone watching.

As his prize, Owen took home a brand new flatland skimboard, generously donated by Dan Plumbridge. A massive thank you to Dan for supporting the event and helping encourage the next generation of UK skimboarders.

Debuting Our New Soft-Tech Prototype

One of the highlights for us at Shaka Skimboards was introducing our brand-new Soft-Tech skimboard prototype.

We wanted to use the meet as the perfect opportunity to get the board under the feet of real riders and gather honest feedback and we’re delighted with the response.

Riders loved the extra confidence the softer construction gave them when trying new tricks, while still delivering impressive pop for shuv-its and excellent buoyancy across the water. Seeing so many people enjoying the prototype has given us plenty of excitement for what’s to come, and we’ll be sharing more updates on its development soon.

These events continue to grow year after year, and it’s amazing to see such a welcoming and passionate skimboarding community in the UK.
