There are two stances that you can have when Skimboarding and doing other board sports, such as; Surfing, Skateboarding and Snowboarding. They are:
Regular - Left foot at the front and Right foot at the back of the board.
Goofy - Right foot at the front and Left foot at the back of the board.
Stance is all about what is most comfortable for you. Around 50% of people are regular and 50% Goofy, don't ever feel like there is any right or wrong. For some people choosing a stance comes very naturally and is automatic. For others including myself this was not the case, there are several techniques that you can use to determine your stance.
The Jump Test: Run and jump. The foot that you jump off should be at the back of the board. E.g. I jump off my left foot which means that I am goofy stance.
The Stair Test: Stand at the bottom of the stairs and walk up. The foot the you lift up to put on the first step should be at the front of the board. E.g. I would lift my right foot onto the first step meaning that I am goofy stance.
The Push Test: Put your feet together and get somebody to push you from behind. The foot that you move forward to support yourself should be at the front of the board. E.g. I would support myself with my right foot so I am goofy stance.
I hope this helps! Please ask any questions and share any tips.
